My mom's beloved daddy died when she was only 6 years old from Pleurisy. Mom told me that her dad got sick and her mother had a hard time locating the doctor.  When he was finally found in one of the juke joints he was quiet intoxicated. They did get him to come to the house and he did leave a bottle of medicine. Lawdon got worse after taking the medicine and died a few days later. Some thought that the doctor had given him the wrong medicine, but when they looked for the bottle, which had been placed on the fireplace mantel, it was gone. It was believed that the doctor, after sobering up, realized what he had done, and took the medicine during one of his later visits.
